Thank you for choosing the Socionics Type Assistant. We hope you will enjoy using this psychometric application.
Background information
Socionics is a branch of psychology based on Carl Jung's work on psychological types, Sigmund Freud's theory of the conscious and subconscious and Antoni Kepinski's theory of Information Metabolism. Socionics was founded mainly by the Lithuanian researcher Aushra Augustinavichute in the 1970s and is now evolving rapidly. Socionics also shares much in common with the work of Myers-Briggs, however there are circumstances when Socionics and MBTI differ in a few significant ways.
Socionics is based upon the idea that we are all different in fundamental ways. One's ability to process different information is limited by their particular type. A person's behaviour is dependent on a set of blocks called "psychological functions". Different ways of combining and chaining these functions result in different ways of accepting and producing information, which in turn results in different character types. These types are sixteen.
The main advantage of Socionics is the Intertype Relations theory. Based on a person's psychological type, it is now possible to anticipate development in human relationships with incredible accuracy. This makes it a very powerful tool when dealing with problems in relationships. Generally, a minimum amount of knowledge in Socionics is irreplaceable in any field of human activity where more than one person is involved, having to work or live together.
Socionics Type Assistant
The Socionics Type Assistant is a psychometric application designed to help you to find out your psychological type using advanced technologies. It has two testing modes, one is called the Normal mode, the other is called the Reversed mode. In the Normal mode you will be required to pick the words that describe your personality, whereas in the Reversed mode you will have to do the opposite, pick the words that definitely do not describe it. These modes are then combined in the Profile in order to produce more accurate result.
You can save your selections at any time by going to the Save menu. This will prepare a snapshot of your selections, however the actual saving is done by bookmarking of the Save page. If the Save menu is not available, there is also the Intercode menu, which will generate an interchangeable code of your selections, which you can store elsewhere or use with other Intercode enabled Socionics applications. The Reset option will reset all your selections, so make sure you save them first in case you need them again later.
Approaching the test
Psychometric testing, as everything else, is not equally suited for everyone. Some people naturally do better on the tests then the other. But in any case there are several conditions that have to be fulfilled first before you can achieve best results:
* You have to have the right frame of mind when approaching the test. This mainly requires your patience, attention and concentration.
* Do not take the test just because someone else wants you to. It is imperative that you have the willingness for self-exploration and the desire to discover your true psychological type before you begin.
* Be truthful to yourself. This test is to discover your true psychological type and not your projection of it.
* Your mood before you start is very important. Your emotional condition can significantly influence your choices, especially if you are too excited or too depressed.
* It would help if you do not suffer from any sort of psychological disorder such as split personality disorder or any other mental condition that may affect your judgement.
* It would be better if you take this test alone. The presence of other people can affect your choices as well as being distracting.
Making selections
The recommended number of selections for each mode is 60-90. Making less selections than recommended may provide insufficient data required for an accurate analysis. General tips on how to make the right selections are displayed with every testing mode, however, try to avoid neutral choices when making selections in the Reversed mode.
Although the test has two separate modes, they are not two separate tests but two different parts of the same test, therefore you should treat them as such. This means that the results will be based on your whole performance on the test.
Take the test in the Normal mode and take a break if you need one, then complete the test in the Reversed mode. The objective is to complete the testing session with one take. Going back and forth altering selections and comparing the outcome may produce inaccurate results.
General notes
This test takes into account unconscious choices made by the user and thus is primarily designed to be used by people unfamiliar with their type or the testing procedure.
This test is designed to work with your own personality, or rather your subjective evaluation of it. Trying to describe someone else's personality in order to find out their psychological type may produce inaccurate results.
